New Student Trustee Joins Cayuga Community College’s Board of Trustees
Cayuga Community College’s new Student Trustee is an Auburn Enlarged City School District graduate who’s pursuing his associate’s degree while serving in the New York Army National Guard.
Trustees welcomed sophomore Edward Fagan to the board this semester, applauding him for his determination to earn his Associate in Science while continuing his service in the National Guard. Fagan said he’s eager to get started as the student trustee and encouraged his classmates to discuss ideas with him in the year ahead.
“As student trustee, I hope to continue being the bridge that my predecessor was between the students and the Board of Trustees,” he said. “I want students to know that I’m here to help any way that I can, and encourage them to ask questions and speak with myself and the leaders in the Student Government Organization about their experience and ideas at Cayuga.”
Cayuga President Dr. Brian Durant and Chair Marian Brown both welcomed Fagan to the Board of Trustees, saying they looked forward to working with him in the coming year.
“Our student trustees always offer valuable perspective on the Board of Trustees, and I’m sure Edward will continue that trend with his own outstanding contributions,” said Dr. Durant. “He’s a strong student who is dedicated to his classmates, and has also demonstrated his commitment to our community by serving in the Army National Guard. We’re excited to welcome him to the board.”
“Edward is a welcome addition to our Board of Trustees. He’s energetic about supporting his classmates, believes in their talent and how we can support them, and is interested in further strengthening the ties between students and Cayuga,” said Brown. “We look forward to hearing his ideas about Cayuga and the services we provide students and the community.”
Fagan started at Cayuga in the fall of 2021 and completed a semester before deciding to join the New York Army National Guard. He returned to Cayuga in the spring of 2026 to finish his coursework and earn an Associate of Science in Criminal Justice.
He enrolled at Cayuga due to its proximity, but he also heard recommendations from other students and alumni about their experience at the college.
“I’ve always heard how much the professors care about the students and how it is a good college to start your higher education. The college has welcomed me and impressed me with how everyone treats each other and how easy it is to get started,” said Fagan.
Fagan plans to graduate in the spring and pursue a career in law enforcement.
