The United Soccer Coaches Association has recognized the coaches of Cayuga Community College’s 2018 Region III, Division B Champion Men’s Soccer Team as the best in the East Region.
Coach Chris Davison and assistant coaches Vasile Ilcu and Joseph Davison led Cayuga to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III National Semifinals and finished the season ranked 4thnationally, tied for the top finish in program history. Awards are still piling up for Cayuga Community College’s Men’s Soccer Team, as two players on the 2018 Region III, Division B Champions have been named All-Americans.
Sophomore Spencer Urquiza and freshman Kent Meier were both voted Second-Team All-Americans for Division III in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), with Urquiza selected as a forward and Meier as a midfielder. They were also voted Second-Team East All-Region by the United Soccer Coaches Association.

For the second straight year, the prestigious Syracuse-based YMCA Downtown Writers Center has honored Cayuga Community College Professor Emeritus Jeffrey Delbel, this time for his 2018 novel “Salvatore.”
A former dean and a long-time faculty member at Cayuga, Delbel published his first novel, “The Flight of Jimmy Eagleson,” in 2017 and received the People’s Choice Award in the Downtown Writers Center’s CNY Book Awards. New Cayuga Community College Student Trustee Daniel Charles is looking forward to representing his fellow students on the College Board of Trustees and is hoping to enhance communication between students and College leaders.

Cayuga Community College will continue offering enhanced educational services for currently enrolled veterans and their dependents thanks to a grant from the Ambassador Trustee Carl Spielvogel Fund.
Cayuga is one of only 11 SUNY campuses to receive the grant funding, which is used for furthering career services, training and educational opportunities for enrolled veterans and their dependents. Projects supported by the funding at SUNY campuses include training programs for manufacturing, mechatronics, hydraulics and pneumatics and other areas of study.

Cayuga Community College’s student-run theatre troupe Harlequin Productions again received an impressive slate of awards from the Theatre Association of New York State (TANYS), this time for the group’s fall performances of “Rooms.”
Featuring a cast filled with new members, Harlequin’s performances of the six one-act plays that comprise “Rooms” nevertheless drew strong reviews from TANYS adjudicators, with eight students recognized for their acting abilities.

Cayuga Community College’s Cultural Speaker Series will celebrate veterans with an upcoming presentation illustrating the experiences and memories of some of Central New York’s service men and women.
In the third presentation of Cayuga’s Cultural Speaker Series, Joe Messineo and Richard Calagiovanni will discuss the Central New York Veterans History Project, which documents and preserves the experiences of veterans and is a part of the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project. The Cayuga Community College Men’s Soccer Team will start their final push for a national championship Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018, when they take the field in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Men’s Soccer Championship.
The Spartans are ranked 5th nationally and enter the tournament with a 14-2 record after defeating Herkimer 3-1 to win the Region III, Division B title.

Opportunities for students continue to increase at Cayuga Community College, as President Brian Durant has announced the College will add lacrosse to its athletic offerings for students.
Starting in the 2019-2020 academic year, the Spartans will field a men’s lacrosse team with the addition of women’s lacrosse to follow. Both of these teams will compete at the renovated Falcon Park in downtown Auburn.
