COURSE DESCRIPTION

This is an introduction to macroeconomics. The course covers how society chooses to allocate scarce resources within the context of the whole economic system. The focus is on how markets function, various macroeconomic theories, the role of government in an economic system, the international economy, the role of money in an economic system, the policy responses to the problems of inflation, unemployment and slow economic growth. This class also studies how various races, genders and classes have fared in labor markets, as well as the dynamics of power, privilege, oppression and opportunity.
