New Cayuga Lacrosse Program to Start in 2019

Opportunities for students continue to increase at Cayuga Community College, as President Brian Durant has announced the College will add lacrosse to its athletic offerings for students.

Starting in the 2019-2020 academic year, the Spartans will field a men’s lacrosse team with the addition of women’s lacrosse to follow. Both of these teams will compete at the renovated Falcon Park in downtown Auburn.

Lacrosse is just the latest addition to Cayuga’s growing athletic offerings, with the College’s baseball team scheduled to begin its inaugural season in the spring of 2019.

“We are always excited about creating new opportunities for our students, and adding lacrosse is no different,” said Durant. “This announcement is particularly exciting because our student-athletes playing lacrosse can compete at Falcon Park, which will be the College’s first outdoor athletic complex and features a state-of-the-art synthetic turf field. These new programs, combined with the chance to play at a great athletic facility, are incredible opportunities for our students.”

“Lacrosse is a great addition to our athletic offerings, and one that I’m sure will appeal to our current students and to prospective students interested in attending Cayuga,” said Athletic Director Pete Liddell. “We’re looking forward to seeing our student-athletes compete at Falcon Park, which will be one of the best athletic facilities in the region.”

Cayuga has recently partnered with the City of Auburn to renovate Falcon Park, which is the long-time home of the Auburn Doubledays. The project features the installation of synthetic turf and other upgrades, with construction beginning this fall and slated for completion in the early spring of 2019. The field will host Cayuga’s baseball, softball and men’s and women’s soccer and lacrosse contests.

Cayuga is actively recruiting coaches for both lacrosse programs. Interested students and coaches should contact Liddell at
