Franceschelli Named New Trustee at Cayuga

Tompkins Trust Company Vice President Anthony Franceschelli has joined the Board of Trustees at Cayuga Community College, bringing with him more than 30 years’ experience as a financial leader in the Auburn community.

An alum from Cayuga’s Class of ’78, Franceschelli has an extensive record of community involvement. He has served as president of the Board of Directors for the Fred L. Emerson Foundation and as director with the Cayuga Community College Foundation. During his tenure with the Emerson Foundation, Franceschelli helped establish the Fred L. Emerson Foundation Academic Scholarship, which financially supports qualified first-time, full-time students at Cayuga.

The Cayuga County Legislature appointed Franceschelli to the College’s Board of Trustees to complete the unexpired term of Dr. Richard Stankus, who resigned in June.  Mr. Franceschelli’s term will expire in June 2022.

“I am delighted to be asked to serve my alma mater as a member of the Board of Trustees of Cayuga Community College. It is an honor to serve the College that played such a fundamental role in my life and education,” said Franceschelli.

Cayuga President Dr. Brian Durant and Board of Trustees President Dr. Linda Van Buskirk welcomed Franceschelli, and were confident his history of support for the college and deep ties to Cayuga County would make him an excellent trustee.

“Tony has a demonstrated passion for his community, whether it’s through his years as a financial leader in Cayuga County or his service with numerous local organizations,” said Durant. “I know he will bring the same enthusiasm to Cayuga Community College and our Board of Trustees. We’re excited to begin working with him.”

“Throughout his career, Tony has exhibited a commitment to Cayuga County and a passion for creating opportunities for other people. Those are traits we prize, and we’re confident he will bring fresh ideas to our Board of Trustees. We welcome him and look forward to hearing his ideas on how Cayuga Community College can continue to improve,” said Van Buskirk.

Franceschelli has been an integral member of the Auburn community for decades, from his community involvement to his financial work with Tompkins Trust Company and previously with Cayuga Bank.

His successful career in finance began with a role as the audit officer with HSBC in 1981 before becoming Assistant Vice President and eventually Vice President in 1987 at the Savings Bank of the Finger Lakes.  He became Controller of the Finance Division at Cayuga Bank in 1989 and Vice President of Trust & Investment Services in 1998. Franceschelli served in that position until becoming Vice President and Regional Executive of Tompkins Trust Company in Auburn in 2002.

In addition to his service with the College Foundation and the Emerson Foundation, Franceschelli has also served on the Board of Directors of Auburn Community Hospital, the Auburn YMCA and the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse.
