Cayuga Community College Adds Cross Country to Athletics Program

Cayuga Community College is pleased to announce the addition of men’s and women’s cross country to its intercollegiate program. The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) approval is in place, therefore the Cayuga program will begin with the 2017 Fall semester.

Cayuga President Brian M. Durant stated, “We are very excited to be able to add this to our athletic programs and feel it will be a great opportunity for area high school graduates to attend Cayuga and continue their cross country careers as college athletes.”

Athletic Director, Pete Liddell said “With the local interest and popularity of running in our area schools, it makes sense for us to add cross-country. Each year, our prospective students express an interest in running cross-country at the next level.” The addition of cross country will bring the number of intercollegiate athletic teams at Cayuga Community College to 12.

Liddell also announced the hiring of Toni Giannettino as the program’s new head coach. She is a local, avid, and experienced runner who will be able to provide great coaching and mentoring for the Cayuga student-athletes. She is also the Executive Director of the Faculty-Student Association at Cayuga.

The Cayuga Spartans have already committed to running events at the University of Rochester, SUNY Geneseo, Canisius, Roberts Wesleyan, Houghton, and FLCC in the Fall 2017 semester.
