Geographic Information Systems-A.S

GIS program at CCC offers hands-on training to students in the use of industry standard software in the fields of GIS, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), and remote sensing. Students gain in depth understanding of the fundamentals of these fields and detailed knowledge of GIS technology for analyzing and using spatial data from diverse sources. The associate degree requires at least 65 credit hours; 27 hours in core areas and the balance in the general education and technical support courses of the AS program.

Upon successful completion of the AS program, students will have the skills required to pursue career opportunities at companies using GIS, GPS, and remote sensing technologies, or they could qualify to transfer directly to a four-year program at a participating university as part of a two-plus-two transfer program.Graduates from Cayuga’s GIS program will find employment opportunities in a variety of government-based environmental and planning agencies, as well as in private industry and consulting firms. The establishment of the Institute for the Application of Geospatial Technology (IAGT) at the College provides students with a unique opportunity to learn and explore Geographic Information Technologies (GIT) beyond the limitations of classrooms..

Cayuga’s GIS program uses state of the art advanced GIS lab equipped with a complete suite of ESRI software, ERDAS Imagine, IDRISI, and advanced GPS receivers and software. Students enrolled in the GIS program could have practical work experience and possible job opportunities with IAGT through internships and GIS project work.

If you are interested in computerized mapping, spatial modeling, remote sensing, satellite image analysis, and Global Positioning Systems, Cayuga’s GIS program can provide you an exceptional opportunity to pursue this interest with hands-on training and personal attention. Cayuga’s GIS program will give you the opportunity to develop a career in GIS or continue studies toward the baccalaureate in GIS or in related majors including environmental science, resources management, civil engineering, planning, ecology, cartography, and geography. It is a great time to be part of Cayuga's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) program and take advantage of the working opportunities at IAGT. Students are already working at IAGT and it is very exciting to see them benefiting from our association with the Institute and gaining professional experiences while finishing the college.
