National Awards for Cayuga's Telcom Students & Faculty

STUDENT AWARDS

Two videos produced by Cayuga Community College Telcom students have been selected as finalists for the 2002 National Student Production Awards. Cayuga is the only community college represented among the finalists. Awards will be announced Nov. 1 at the national College Media Advisors convention in Orlando, Florida. This is the first year Cayuga has been eligible to enter the competition.

Both videos are in the Music Video category. The first video "Lactose Related," was produced by Telcom students Ron Stangarone (Camillus), Tim Krupka (Baldwinsville), Chris Clark (Auburn), and Travis Stock (Auburn). The other video "Laid," was produced by Telcom students Josh Borisoff (Romulus), Dan Krampen (Geneva), and Dan Coon (Auburn). Both videos were created as projects in Professor Steve Keeler's TV Production II class.

Other colleges represented among the finalists in various categories include: Ithaca College, University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University, Northwestern, Pepperdine, University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Miami.

FACULTY AWARD

Steve Keeler, Professor of Telecommunications/Broadcasting at Cayuga, has been named the National Broadcast Educator of the Year by the Society of Broadcast Engineers. Keeler has been a member of SBE since 1989 and also serves as the director of Cayuga's telecommunications degree programs. This is the second time in the past three years he has received this award.
