On April 20, the Cayuga Community College student group Come as You Are, also known as CAYA, held a 3-on-3 basketball tournament that was open to all Cayuga students. The event had an All-Star game atmosphere, with about 40 students showing up to participate in the event. There were three different events to compete in: the 3-on-3 tournament, the 3-point contest, and the dunk contest.
The winning team of the 3-on-3 tournament was China Agnew, Travis Bailey, and Carlos Reaves. Agnew was the MVP of the tournament. Antwan Ballinger won the the 3-point shootout, and Donald Lawes was the winner of the dunk contest. The winner of each contest took home a trophy.
CAYA has held this basketball tournament for the past three years and plans to continue the event. The purpose of the event is to get students involved and to have fun.
“CAYA is a group where we encourage leadership skills and organizational skills,” said Nilsa DeJesus, who organized the event. “We try to increase the interactions between students and improve their relationships.”
CAYA was created by students of color and seek to enrich the culture of the College through ethnically diverse programming and activities that acknowledge commonalities among campus members.
