Cayuga CC Theatre Company Wins TANYS Awards
In the world of community theatre awards, there's gold, silver and bronze. Harlequin Productions of Cayuga Community College has captured two golds and a silver from the Theatre Association of New York State for its spring 2010 premier of Knuckles by Jason Manning.
Based on reviews by its traveling judges, TANYS grants Merit Awards annually at three levels: Outstanding, for superlative quality rarely achieved; Excellence, for exceptional quality surpassing the norm; and Meritorious, for quality deserving special recognition. Knuckles, a contemporary comedy about a lovelorn young loser, was recognized for:
- Outstanding Production Concept and Execution - entire production staff
- Outstanding Direction - director Robert Frame
- Excellence in Ensemble Work - entire cast
TANYS judge Sherman Ward praised Knuckles for its "well-rounded ensemble" of "34 characters acted by the cast of 13 actors," as well as the color, creativity and precision delivered by "the entire production staff." One of many premiers staged in recent years by the Harlequin players, "the whole theatrical production," said Ward, was "outstanding."
The 2010 Merit Awards will be presented at the TANYS Annual Festival in November.
