A charcoal landscape by Cayuga Community College freshman Nathan Dann is among 55 student art works chosen for the 2009 Best of SUNY art exhibition from May 18 through September 25 in the SUNY Administration Building in Albany. The show presents the top selections out of 226 works shown during the Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 SUNY Art Student Exhibition Series. The series, which drew from submissions across the 64-campus State University of New York system, included pieces by five Cayuga students.
Dann's 18-by-24-inch charcoal drawing, depicting a scene on Cayuga's nature trail, will be eligible for one of the scholarship prizes to be awarded during the exhibition. Three Best of Show winners will each receive $1,000 scholarships, and four Honorable Mention winners will each receive $500 scholarships.
A resident of Moravia and 2008 graduate of Moravia High School, Dann is enrolled full-time at Cayuga's Auburn campus as a Studio Art and Design major. Beyond his particular interests in oil, pastel, charcoal and pencil, he is using his coursework to explore a broad array of media taught at the college. The recipient of next year's Zambito scholarship for a returning sophomore in the Humanities, Dann plans to complete his associate's degree at Cayuga, then transfer into a baccalaureate program in studio art as preparation for an art career.
