New Chancellor Responds to Student Media at SUNY's First Webcast Press Conference

DATE: 03-19-2009

Albany - State University of New York Chancellor-Designate Dr. Nancy L. Zimpher became the first SUNY chancellor to hold a press conference exclusively for SUNY student media via webcast.

Student Assembly Director of Communications David Belsky, a University at Albany graduate student, moderated the March 11, 2009, event. Chancellor Zimpher answered questions on a range of topics including campus safety, tuition, budget concerns, and being the first female chancellor.

"I am very grateful to the SUNY Student Assembly for their assistance in making the webcast possible and I look forward to talking with student media on a regular, on-going basis," said Chancellor Zimpher. "It is a wonderful opportunity for me to carry the message directly to our colleges about what SUNY is doing to help the campuses and our students."

"We appreciated having the opportunity to interact with the new Chancellor," said Belsky. "Her decision to hold her first press conference exclusively for students highlights her commitment to listening to our voices as she begins her leadership of the SUNY system."
