Cayuga CC Play Chosen for Statewide Theatre Festival

DATE: 11-20-2008

Harlequin Productions of Cayuga Community College has been honored by the Theatre Association of New York State. Their production of "It Happened at Kings Island" by Jay Huling was selected as one of eight plays to be staged at the 49th annual TANYS Festival.

The festival, to be held the weekend of November 21-23, 2008, at Genesee Community College in Batavia, will feature performances by non-professional theatre companies from throughout New York State.

"It Happened at Kings Island" was part of a compilation titled Hook-Up 2020, performed in October at Cayuga Community College. Judged by a traveling TANYS adjudicator, the show was one of more than 50 entries to the TANYS festival.

Four Harlequin actors were recognized for their work in Hook-Up 2020. A Meritorious Achievement in Acting Award went to Zac Darling for "Male Order," and Meritorious Achievement for Ensemble Acting Awards went to Jacqueline Kocur, James Cantu, and Esther Taylor-Weiss for "It Happened at Kings Island." The awards will be presented at the festival.
