On Saturday, November 8, the men's basketball team scored the final 7 points in the last moments to stun Fulton-Montgomery CC on the road 78-73. Trailing 73-71 with 16 seconds left and FMCC on the foul line, the Spartans converted the Raiders' missed free throws into a basket and a foul, taking the lead 74-73, then stole the ball on FMCC's ensuing possession. The Spartans were able to convert on their final free throws, made another steal, and finished with a dunk in the final ticks of the clock to win the thriller 78-73. Vance Kelley led the Spartans with 24 points including 6 three-pointers. The team's record now stands at 2-1.
The same day, the women's basketball team continued their hot start to the season by knocking off Fulton-Montgomery CC, the region's #4-ranked team, on the road 67-57, with the Spartans outscoring FMCC 15-5 in overtime. Sophomore Corissa Quattrini scored 22 points and had 19 rebounds, while Caitlyn Dillard made 22 points, 6 assists and 5 steals. Shakeema Green added 14 points for the Lady Spartans, now 3-0 on the season.
Both teams travel Tuesday, November 11, to meet Alfred State's Pioneers in a doubleheader.
