Cayuga Grad Wins Sheriff's Scholarship

DATE: 07-17-2007

Michael Szczepanski of Auburn, who graduated in May from Cayuga Community College, has received a $500 New York State Sheriffs? Association Scholarship. The scholarship, presented by Cayuga County Sheriff David Gould, was one of 32 awarded at community colleges statewide in 2007.

Winners are chosen based on academic performance and a commitment to work in criminal justice or a related field. Szczepanski has enrolled in a bachelor's degree program at SUNY University at Albany and plans a career in law enforcement. He earned associate's degrees from Cayuga in liberal arts, business administration, and criminal justice/police science.

“Michael is just the type of student we had in mind when we started our scholarship program,” stated Sheriff Gould. “He has let nothing deter him in his pursuit of his goals, and he exhibits all the qualities we look for in our scholarship recipients. The New York State Sheriffs? Association is proud to recognize and reward Michael for his efforts.”

This is the 17th year the scholarship has been awarded to a Cayuga Community College student.
