Although the author of Moby Dick was famed for his seagoing exploits and stories, Herman Melville came ashore long enough to visit Auburn in the year 1859. Howard Nelson, an English professor at Cayuga Community College, will share the tale of that visit at the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center at 205 Genesee Street on Thursday, October 12, at 7:30 p.m. Nelson, a published author, will also read from works of his own. The reading is free and open to all.
