Cayuga Student Video Reaches National Finals

DATE: 09-22-2005

For the third time in four years, a video by a Cayuga Community College student has been named a finalist in a national competition.

Frank the Bear, a short animated comedy, was created last spring by broadcasting student Eric Smith as a TV Production II project. The video was submitted to the National Student Production Awards competition of the Collegiate Broadcasters, a nationwide association for college media students and faculty. It reached the finals in the competition's Best Technical Production category.

Cayuga, which placed in the finals in 2002 and 2004 in the Music Video category, is the only community college ever to reach that level of competition. Cayuga's 2004 entry went on to win first prize.

The annual competition draws entries from such film and television powerhouses as New York University, Emerson College, Carnegie-Mellon University, and the University of Texas at Austin. Top awards will be announced later this year, after another round of judging by media professionals from around the country.
