Financial Aid General Information

Students should be prepared to pay for their own expenses for room, food, and transportation for the first five weeks of school. Your actual Pell award will be determined based on the number of credits you are enrolled in at the time of assessment.

Student Responsibilities

Read and understand procedures and applications
Provide documentation when necessary according to federal and state regulations
Enroll in an approved program at Cayuga Community College
Continue to achieve Good Academic Standing and maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress toward a degree or certificate (Information on minimum requirements for continuing eligibility for financial aid is available in the Registrar's and Financial Aid Offices)

Students may not receive financial aid if they owe a refund or are in default on any financial aid previously received.

Withdrawing from courses may jeopardize future aid or cause a repayment on awards. Students are advised to seek counseling before making changes in their enrollment status. College policies on refunds and withdrawals are available in the Financial Aid office.

Part Time Students

Part time students enrolled for six credits or more may be eligible to receive a Ford Federal Direct Student Loan. Students enrolled for 3-11 credits may also be eligible for Pell, SEOG, APTS, and Federal Work Study, based on financial need and program funds.

Disbursements

Loans will be paid on the disbursement date on your Disclosure Form or after your promissory note is completed online, whichever comes later. The first disbursement of excess grant aid will be after the fourth week of classes. Late awards will be disbursed several weeks after the award notice. Tuition, fees and book costs which have been deferred will be deducted from the first aid processed.

Awards

Aid recipients should review award letters carefully and report any incorrect information immediately to the Financial Aid Office. Actual or estimated awards could be adjusted based on additional information, revised regulations, or changed student status. Estimates should not be considered actual amounts. If estimates are listed on the award letter the student is responsible for making sure awards are processed properly. The Express TAP Application (ETA) must list Cayuga Community College as the attending institution.

Disbursement of Awards

Before awards can be actually approved and disbursed the student must be in compliance with required program regulations, including State Health Department requirements regarding Measles, Mumps & Rubella (MMR) immunization and Meningitis.

For Pell Awards, enrollment level at the time of assessment will determine the actual award.
For awards from all Federal programs (PELL, SEOG, FWS and Direct Loans), a student must maintain "Satisfactory Progress Standards for Federal Aid." (For Further information contact the Financial Aid Office.)
For awards from State programs (TAP or APTS) a student must:
1. Maintain progress and an academic level according to "Standards for New York State Awards."
2. Be enrolled full-time (at least 12 credits) for a TAP award or part-time (3-11 credits) for an APTS award. A repeated "D" may not count toward enrollment status for TAP and APTS.

Federal Work Study

A Federal Work-Study award is employment on or off campus from which a student may earn income toward the cost of education. Students with Federal Work-Study should report to the Financial Aid Office during the first week of classes for job placement. Attempts will be made to place students in positions associated with their program or skills whenever possible.

Award Criteria

For awards from the Cayuga Community College Foundation or Outside Scholarships, a student must maintain the criteria for eligibility as designated by the awards. For example, a student must:

Be enrolled in the Nursing Program for a Nursing Grant
Maintain a 3.2 GPA for a Sophomore Scholarship
Maintain a 3.2 GPA for an Honors Scholarship
Maintain a 3.2 GPA for a SUNY Minority Honors Scholarship
Maintain a 3.0 GPA for an Association for Widowed People Scholarship
Maintain a 2.75 GPA for a Trustee Scholarship
Maintain a 2.5 GPA for a Scholar Incentive Grant
Maintain a 2.5 GPA for a Foundation Minority Scholarship
Maintain a 2.0 GPA for a Cayuga Savings Bank Award

Attendance/Refund Policy

Students must attend classes to be eligible for financial aid. Students with Federal financial aid who withdraw during the first 60% of the semester will have financial aid awards adjusted. If a student stops attending classes, the Student Development Office should be notified immediately. Dropping out or unofficially withdrawing may result in a student owing a refund and being ineligible for any future Federal aid. Contact the Financial Aid Office for further information.

FACTS Tuition Management Plan

To help you meet your expenses at Cayuga Community College, we are pleased to offer the FACTS Tuition Payment Plan.

This convenient, monthly budget plan gives you two options for making monthly payments: You can make automatic bank payments, or your can charge payments to your MasterCard or Discover Card.

Because FACTS is not a loan program, no debt is incurred, there's no credit search, and no interest or finance charges are assessed by FACTS on the unpaid balance. FACTS simply charges a $25.00 per semester nonrefundable fee to enroll and participate in its program.
