College Foundation Announces New Executive Director

The Cayuga County Community College Foundation announced today that it has selected Guy Thomas Cosentino as its new Executive Director. Mr. Cosentino is the former Executive Director of the Stardust Foundation of Central New York as well as the Stardust Entrepreneurial Institute.

David Contiguglia, the President of the Foundation said: “Mr. Cosentino has extensive foundation and not-for-profit experience within our region and New York State. As a former director of the Foundation, he is acutely aware of the importance of its role in supporting Cayuga Community College. As a former Mayor for the City of Auburn, he has unique knowledge of state and local governments which will enhance our mission.  Mr. Cosentino’s combined expertise will continue developing our strengths in Cayuga and Oswego counties and beyond.”

“I am excited about this position, having had a long relationship with the Foundation, but more importantly with the College, having taken courses with them as early as during my years at Auburn High School and working with them professionally for more than two decades” said Cosentino. He further stated “Cayuga Community College is a tremendous asset for both Cayuga and Oswego counties, not only educating our citizens, but as a major economic driver. The Foundation is a key partner in both of those efforts”.

The Foundation was founded in 1982 with initial gifts from a handful of local community leaders and has grown to have an endowment of more than $13 million supporting the activities of the College and giving out 325 scholarships annually on both the Auburn and Fulton campuses. The Foundation has also partnered with the College on a joint building project at the new Fulton Campus.

Mr. Contiguglia and the Board of Directors are indebted to the interim directors, Kurt Kramer and Gail Homick-Herrling, who provided excellent management and direction while the Foundation conducted an extensive regional search. With their combined assistance, the Foundation was able to grow during this interim period.

Mr. Cosentino served on the Board of the Foundation from 2007 to January 2014, serving on its Executive Committee and chairing its Nominating Committee. His not for profit experience includes being Executive Director of what was then known as Options For Independence, an independent living center that served the needs of those with disabilities in Cayuga and Seneca counties from 1996 to 2007. He was Mayor of the City of Auburn from 1992 to 1995. He currently serves as a member of the Seymour Library Foundation Board and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library Advisory Board, among others. He is a 1985 graduate of Syracuse University, graduating with honors from their History Department. He and his wife Crystal Purcell Cosentino live in Auburn, raising their son Samuel Thomas.

Mr. Cosentino will start his position with the Foundation later this month.
