Women's Soccer 2007 Game Recaps

2007-10-06 - vs. Alfred State College
L 0-4

A great effort from the 8 healthy remaining Spartan players that never gave up. Despite the fact that their opposition had 11 on the field, the Spartans still managed to maintain possession of the ball for most of the game, had their scoring opportunities, but eventually succumbed to Alfred's overwhelming numbers.

2007-10-02 - vs. SUNY Cobleskill
L 1-3

Playing with only 10 players the Spartans put up a great fight and lost at the very end of the game against an athletic opponent that utilized all 20 players. Once again, ball possession was great, but the lack of numbers due to mounting injuries was a deciding factor.

2007-09-29 - vs. Jefferson CC
L 1-5

A great first half was not enough for the 11 Spartan players that ran out of gas in the third game in a week. A very improved possession game was once again present for the Spartans that however once again did not have the luxury of substitutions.

2007-09-27 - vs. Fulton-Montgomery CC
L 0-1

A heartbreaking loss for the Spartans, that dominated the play from the start, recording 34 shots vs 3 for the visitors. A double deflection goal was the difference in the game. The Spartans opportunities included a missed penalty kick and three shots on the woodwork. A great game despite of the outcome for the Spartans.

2007-09-25 - vs. Broome CC
L 0-9

The number one team in the region overwhelmed the Cayuga Spartans in an extremely hot day. Lack of substitutions made it hard to match up with Broome's continuous substitution pattern.

2007-09-22 - vs. Mercyhurst NE
W 2-1

The Spartans dominated the game from the very start, opening the score only five minutes into the first half. They had numerous chances to increase their lead which they eventually did on their way to the third win of the season, already improving their win record from the previous season.

2007-09-13 - vs. Finger Lakes CC
L 0-4

Cayuga started the game strongly but eventually the undefeated Finger Lakes team was able to overcome a tired Cayuga team. The Spartans however never gave up and their intensity and competitive spirit was present until the last minute of the game.

2007-09-11 - vs. Corning CC
W 2-1

Corning CC opened the score on a counterattack 12 minutes into the game. After that point Cayuga CC completely controlled the field of play, possessing the ball well and tied the game 5 minutes later. Cayuga had plenty of opportunities to score again but that would wait until the second half. The Spartans dominated the game missing two penalty kicks on their way to their second home win.

2007-09-08 - vs. Tompkins-Cortland CC
L 0-8

The Spartans held top seeded TC3 scoreless for 30 minutes playing very evenly, but a series of long range shots enabled TC3 to gain a lead that the eleven healthy Spartans were unable to challenge. Playing on turf for the first time in combination with 98 degree temperatures and lack of relief from the bench allowed TC3 to dominate play.

2007-09-06 - vs. Niagara CC
W 3-2

Fielding a team of 11 for the first time this season the Spartans maintained possession throughout the game. They were leading 1-0 at half and wasted many opportunities to increase their lead during that time. The second half started with Niagara scoring two quick goals from corner kicks. But to the Spartans credit, they never gave up and relentlessly kept attacking Niagara's goal. Their pressure was rewarded with two more goals that enabled them to record the first win of the season.

2007-09-01 - vs. Clinton CC
L 2-8

The Spartans had to start the game playing a player down but did their best and never gave up although they lost three more players to injury during the contest. As a result they were overmatched by the host team.

2007-08-29 - vs. Erie CC
L 1-7

The Spartans first game was an exciting one despite the loss. The team started very well, had opportunities to score and maintained a good possession game. However, injuries in the very early stages caused the Spartans to play with nine players and in combination with the potent finishing of Erie's strikers the game was decided in favor of the visiting team.
