Men's Soccer 2007 Game Recaps

2007-10-17 - vs. Tompkins Cortland CC
L 1-3

The Spartans struck early with a deflected shot by Shazz Obiora, assisted by Danny Browne. The shorthanded Spartans battled hard but in the end fell 3-1 to TC3.

2007-10-12 - vs. Alfred State College
Tie 2-2

The Spartans played in frigid temperatures and performed well. After falling down by a goal Shazz Obiora scored a backheel off of a cross by Jon Mulcahey. Shortly there after Danny Browne scored off an assist by Steve Bateman. Late in the game an equalizer was scored which led to an overtime draw.

2007-10-10 - vs. Herkimer CC
W 7-1

The Spartans fininshed their last home game with a tough loss. Jon "Kramer" Mulcahey scored a screamer late in the game to break into the scoring column.

2007-10-03 - vs. SUNY Cobleskill
L 1-4

The Spartans struck first with a goal by Shazz Obiora, assisted by Ben Bolding. After falling behind 4 to 1 in the first half, the Spartans had a shutout second half and maintained ball possession. Nick Burridge recorded 14 saves.

2007-09-29 - vs. Jefferson CC
W 5-2

The Spartans continued their winning ways on the road. Steve Bateman had assists and Dave Shea scored his first goal of the year. Brad Saunders finished a breakaway and Danny Browne netted his third hattrick of the year.

2007-09-27 - vs. Fulton-Montgomery CC
W 3-2

The Spartans dominated possession against FMCC. Goals by Shazz Obiora and Danny Browne led the charge. The game went to overtime tied 2-2. Shortly into the extra time Danny Browne scored from distance and the Spartans charged the field to celebrate a good win.

2007-09-25 - vs. Genesee CC
L 1-4

The Spartans squared off against a nationally ranked opponent at Genesee CC. The Spartans struck first from a set piece. Sheldon Furrs took a shot which led to a rebound finished by Brad Saunders. Genesee tied the game with about 25 minutes left. Shortly after giving up that goal, Genesee followed with a second. Two late goals were allowed while the Spartans pushed for an equalizer.

2007-09-22 - vs. Mercyhurst NE
W 3-1

After giving up an early goal the Spartans struck back before half time with a header by Danny Browne assisted by Jesse Cases-Villablanca. The second half was dominated by the Spartans. A beautiful 35 yard strike by Danny Browne exhilarated the team. Moments later Brett King was cleaned out in the box. Danny Browne finished the penalty to complete the hattrick.

2007-09-18 - vs. SUNY Delhi
L 2-3

The Spartans played a tough battle at Delhi. Delhi scored first off a set piece. The Spartans responded by scoring two quick goals to take the lead. Seventy minutes into the game Delhi succeeded in scoring two goals to win. Spartan goals were scored by Shazz Obiora and Danny Browne. Nick Burridge had 12 saves.

2007-09-15 - vs. Mohawk Valley CC
L 1-3

The Spartans played a very physical match against MVCC. They kept their cool as Danny Browne finished a shot off of a rebound in the box. The Spartans continued to dominate play until MVCC scored two quick goals. Late in the game MVCC scored a late goal as the Spartans pressed for the equalizer.

2007-09-13 - vs. Broome CC
L 0-1

The Spartans played a long match against Broome. After a stressful week with many distractions, the Spartans played well. An overtime goal was scored off a header by Broome.

2007-09-11 - vs. Corning CC
W 8-1

An excellent day for the Spartans as they defeat Corning 8-1. Danny Browne led the way with his first American hattrick and an assist, followed by Matt Gillis with two goals and three assists. Additional positive goals by Shazz Obiora and Geo Bateman. The Spartans combination play dominated the match. Donny Brewer had a solid day in net. Next home match Thursday vs. Broome CC.

2007-09-08 - vs. Finger Lakes CC
L 1-2

The Spartans suffer their first defeat Saturday playing a physical Finger Lakes squad. An excellent goal was scored by Matt Gillis, assisted by Shazz Obiora. Cayuga plays Corning CC this Tuesday at 5 p.m.

2007-09-06 - vs. Niagara CC
W 9-0

Two hattricks by Matt Gillis and Shazz Obiora led scoring, followed by two goals by Dimas Chacon and one from Chris Ackerley. Great assist from Steve Bateman, Danny Browne, Sheldon Furrs, Chris Ackerley, and Matt Gillis, highlighted superb ball movement. A very solid game by all. The Spartans play Finger Lakes CC this Saturday at 1 p.m.

2007-09-01 - vs. Clinton CC
W 2-1

After a long trip North the Spartans continue winning. Clinton CC proved to be a competitive opponent, holding the Spartans 0-0 first half. Skilled set piece play influenced an immediate second half goal by Andy Brown. Clinton countered with a break away goal. Matt Gillis continues scoring with a game winner assisted by Danny Browne. The Spartans return home Thursday, September 6 to face Niagara CC at 4 p.m.

2007-08-29 - vs. Erie CC
W 2-0

The Spartans kicked off their season opener with a decisive win over Erie CC 2-0. Dimas Chacon opened the scoring putting away a set piece assisted by Matt Gillis in the first half. Cayuga's assertive, physical play resulted in the majority of possession and led to the second half goal by Matt Gillis, assisted by Jesse Cases-Villablanca. Goalkeeper Nick Burridge and the Spartans defense posted their first shutout of the season. The Spartans next play Clinton CC on the road this Saturday.
