Cayuga Athletics

A Pre-Season Letter to Prospective Student Athletes

Cayuga Athletics

The listing below represents the current varsity athletic offerings at Cayuga Community College for the upcoming 2010-11 academic year. Included are the official sport start dates and coaching information. If you are interested in participating and have not been in contact with the coach for that program I would encourage you to do so by phone or e-mail.

Anyone who is interested in participating in athletics MUST have a current physical on file (that identifies your clearance to participate) in the College's Health Office prior to participating in any athletic activity whether it is tryouts, practice, off-season programs and game contests. (Note that the winter and spring sport teams may have open gyms, non-traditional season practices and you will need to have your physical prior to that participation, as well.) Here is the form you can take to your physician to complete.

These forms can be taken directly to either the Health Office or Athletic Director's Office, or you can fax them to the Athletic Department at 315-294-8856. The college will provide free sport physical examinations performed by Victory Sports Medicine Staff on the following dates and times (all at College Health Office):

* You must sign up for physicals by calling 315-294-8625 no later than the Friday before the date of exams.

For more information about athletics at Cayuga Community College, contact Pete Liddell, Athletic Director, by phone at 315-294-8861, or email liddell@cayuga-cc.edu.

You’ll have plenty of opportunities to join in on the athletic action at Cayuga. From heavy-duty training to the casual workout, Cayuga’s facilities are among the best in the SUNY system and include racquetball courts, a high-tech fitness center and a beautifully landscaped, mile-long nature and fitness trail.

Intercollegiate Sports at Cayuga

Cayuga Community College supports the following team sports with competitive schedules (NJCAA Division 3, Region 3):

Cayuga not only provides its students with interesting and competitive athletic challenges; team sports at Cayuga also provide athletes with opportunities to their social skills as well through teamwork and cooperation.

The team sports at Cayuga reflect the sports that are popular in the high schools and playing fields of Central New York, giving local students a place to further develop their talents and continue their athletic careers. Student athletes from outside this region of the state benefit from the expert coaching and high level of play Cayuga offers in these sports.

In addition, the College offers outstanding athletic facilities, including Spartan Hall, a fitness center, racquetball courts, and jogging/hiking trails. To support its soccer and lacrosse programs, the College offers a playing field, located in Auburn’s Emerson Park, on the shores of Owasco Lake... and has access to field turf facilities off-site when necessary when there is inclimate weather.

The cornerstone of Cayuga’s athletic programs is the coaching staff. All Cayuga coaches are themselves former collegiate athletes and have extensive coaching experience in their sports at the college and high school levels.

Cayuga’s Athletic Program never loses sight of the College’s primary mission - to provide a quality education to all of its students. To that end, the College has instituted a number of programs that help athletes keep up with their academics while pursuing their athletic ambitions. For example, Cayuga’s "Athletic Institution" program allows student athletes to take certain courses for one hour of credit at a time before the start of the academic year. This gives them a head start on their academic programs, thereby reducing course workloads later in the semester, during the height of their athletic activity.
