Caitlyn Dillard scored 52 points, pulled down 11 rebounds, had 10 assists and 10 steals in two games against TC3 and Onondaga the first week of January. She also scored her 1,000th career
point on Thursday at Tompkins-Cortland. Caitlyn now has scored 1,022 points in her career at Cayuga. She becomes only the second Spartan women's player in school history to score 1000 points.
The men's basketball team won their first two home games of the season, both in exciting, one point victories over Fulton-Montgomery and Alfred State.
Trailing FMCC by 15 points in the second half and 9 points at halftime, the Spartans played very good team defense the last 7 minutes of the game forcing several turnovers and ultimately getting their first and only lead of the game with under a minute to play. Terry Harrison scored 28 points and had 8 rebounds. Earl Jackson scored 19 points and had 4 assists.
The Spartans also won their next home game in exciting fashion against Alfred State as Terry Harrison made two free-throws to give the Spartans an 81-80 lead with 8.3 seconds left in a very hard fought, intense contest. Terry Harrison led the way with 18 points and had 12 rebounds. Jimmy Hill scored 11 points and had 7 assists. Isaiah Linton scored 11 points, 3 three pointers made. The team's record is now 2-3 and travel Saturday, November 14 to face Niagara in the first round of the TC3 Tournament.
The women's basketball team split their first two home games with a 91-60 win over FMCC and a narrow 72-71 loss to Alfred State.
Cayuga used a balanced attack to pull away from Fulton-Montgomery 91-60. Caitlyn Dillard led the Spartans with 29 points, 6 assists and 5 steals. Shakeema Green scored 14 points, had 6 assists and 5 steals. Ryan Iannello scored 12 points and Jamie Nwajei chipped in with 11 points.
Alfred State scored a basket with 4.5 seconds on the clock to claim the victory in a hard fought game. The Spartans down 70-57 with 3:46 on the clock went on a 14-0 run to take a 71-70 lead with 14 seconds left only to see Alfred hit the game winning shot. Caitlyn Dillard led the Spartans with 27 points, 4 assists and 5 steals. Caroline Francis scored 11 points and had 9 rebounds. Shakeema Green scored 8 points and had 8 steals. Cayuga, now 2-3 overall, plays Niagara CC at the TC3 Tournament on Saturday, November 14.
Congratulations to Danny Browne and Pat Sodums, who were both named to the Mid-State Athletic Conference Men's Soccer All-Star Team for the Fall 2009 season.
Browne, a sophomore from Manchester, England, led the Spartans in scoring with 10 goals and 2 assists from his defensive sweeper position. The team's captain provided great leadership for a team that narrowly missed a NJCAA Region III post-season spot. This is Browne's second appearance on this squad…as he also was named to the 2007 MSAC All-Star team. He is currently majoring in Liberal Arts & Science at CCC.
Joining Browne as an All-Star is freshman midfielder Pat Sodums. The Spencer native scored one goal and had four assists in helping to anchor the midfield for the Spartans. He is currently majoring in Business Administration at CCC.
Congratulations to Lauren Dunster, who was named to the Mid-State Athletic Conference Women's Soccer All-Star Team for the Fall 2009 season. The freshman sweeper led the Spartans in tackles and pass interceptions…and was counted on to assist in neutralizing many opponent's top scorers in a very competitive NJCAA Region III schedule. The Auburn, NY native transferred from Canisius College and is currently majoring in Liberal Arts & Science at CCC.
