May Betters Score With 77 on Day 3Cayuga Community College's Ryan May shot a 5-over round of 77 in Thursday's third round of the NJCAA Division III Nationals at Chautauqua Golf Club. May has lowered his score each of the three days of competition with scores of 80, 79 and 77. He is currently tied with Joe Arnold (Nassau CC, NY) and Mike Simons (Jamestown CC, NY) with their three-day totals of 236. May will tee off in Round 4 at 9:16 am on Friday with Clark Boatner (Jones County CC, MS) and Mike Simons (Jamestown CC, NY).

 

 

 

CCC's May Saves Best For Final Round of NJCAA Nationals

Ryan May birdied his final two holes of the tournament and shot a final round 2-over par 74. He saved his best round for the last day in the tournament in posting rounds of 80-79-77-74 for a total of 310. May moved up 12 spots in the final round and finished in a tie for 37th overall with Nassau CC's Joe Arnold in the field of 92 golfers. The Spartan freshman was one of only two golfers in the entire field to better his score in each of the tournament's four rounds.

May Cards 79 in Day 2 of NJCAA Nationals

Cayuga CC golfer Ryan May bettered his Day One total by a stroke to shoot 79 in Day Two at the NJCAA National Tournament in Jamestown. May remains in the middle of the 92-player field with a two-day total of 159 heading into Rounds 3 & 4 on Thursday and Friday. May's pairing for Thursday's 10:44am tee time include Dan Ross (Century College, MN) and David Govan (Butler CC, PA).

Spartan's May Shoots 80 in Day 1 at NJCAA Nationals

Cayuga Community College freshman golf standout Ryan May shot an opening round 8-over par of 80 to put him self in the top half of the field after Day One at the NJCAA Division III National Tournament being held at the Chautauqua Golf Club in Mayville, NY. The event is playing host to 92 golfers and the 72-hole tournament has qualifiers from over 20 states and 40 colleges. May earned his way by finishing as Region III's top individual qualifier and posting back-to-back scores of 78 at Cornell in early May. He hopes to climb the leader board during the next three days of competition.

Men's LAXers Win Post-Season Honors

Congratulations to Men's Lacrosse player Joey Poppe, named to the NJCAA Region III Division III second team. Poppe also won first-team honors in the Mid-State Athletic Conference, while teammates Dan Hunt and Mark Green earned honorable mention. At the NJCAA Region III All-star game played at Herkimer CCC on May 2, Hunt was named MVP, with five goals and one assist for the West squad. Spartan attackman Hunt has scored over 100 points in his Cayuga career.

Spartans Finish 4th in NJCAA Regional, May Advances to NationalsThe Spartan golf team finished fourth overall in the two-day NJCAA Region III Division III Tournament held May 11-12 at Cornell University's Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Ithaca. From a ninth-place standing on day one, the Spartans vaulted five spots by posting a 331 team score on day two, for a tournament total of 681. With a 78 carded both days, Ryan May's tournament score of 156 was the fourth best overall. He was named to the NJCAA Region III Division III All-Region team and was the number one qualifier (out of only five in the tournament) for the NJCAA National Tournament to be held June 2-5, 2009, at Chautauqua Country Club in Jamestown. Cayuga is currently ranked #7 in the latest NJCAA National poll.

Ryan-Brian Duo Make All-Conference Golf TeamCongratulations to Spartans Ryan May and Brian Walker, who together make up one-fourth of the Spring 2009 Mid-State All-Conference golf team. All-Conference honors go to the top eight golfers at the Conference Tournament. At this year's tourney, held May 3 at Elm Tree Golf Course in Cortland, May shot a 76 and Walker a 78. Both golfers are ranked in the NJCAA Region III top ten. They will join their Spartan teammates to compete in the NJCAA Regional event at Cornell University on May 11 and 12.

Poppe Named NJCAA National M-LAX Player of Week

Poppe Named NJCAA National M-LAX Player of WeekSpartan midfielder Joey Poppe won NJCAA National Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week honors for the week ending April 19, 2009. Poppe (Jordan-Elbridge H.S.; Memphis, N.Y.) recorded 23 points that week to be named the NJCAA Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week. In an 18-22 loss against Mercyhurst North East, he put up five goals on nine shots and four assists, adding four ground balls. Later in the week, in a 17-12 win against Dean College, he put up seven goals on ten shots, added seven assists and grabbed nine ground balls.

Cayuga Golf Places 2nd at Spartan Invitational

Cayuga CC golf earned a region best-ever overall 2nd place finish with a team score of 315 in the eight team field played at the Spartan Invitational Tourney at Highland Park Golf Club on Friday, April 24, 2009.

Brian Walker (Auburn) finished tied for second best round of the day by shooting a team best 75. Ryan May continued his consistent play (Auburn) finishing tied for 6th overall with his fourth top ten finish in four matches by carding an 78. Caleb Gordon and Bill Moore (Union Springs) added 80 and 82, respectively. James Nervina (Cato-Meridian), Shawn Patterson (Auburn) and Nick DeSocio (Auburn) shot 87, 88 and 95 to round out the scoring for Cayuga.

Monroe won the event by shooting 300 and the Tribune's Tyler Phillips shot an impressive even-par 71 to earn medalist honors.

Spartan's Dillard Named Among 20 NJCAA All-Americans Nationwide

Spartan's Dillard Named Among 20 NJCAA All-Americans NationwideThe Cayuga Community College Spartans' Caitlyn Dillard, a freshman guard, has been named by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) to the Women's Basketball Division III 2009 All-American Team. In 2008-09, Dillard led the nation in scoring with an average of 23.8 points per game and set a new Cayuga record as single-season leading scorer with a total of 642 points for the Spartans. Dillard is one of only 20 players nationwide chosen for her All-American team, and one of only three in Region III. A first-team pick in NJCAA Region III Division III and the Mid-State Athletic Conference, she was named Region III Female Athlete of the Week three times during the 2008-09 season. Dillard's hometown is Lancaster, Pa.; she graduated from Conestoga Valley High School.
