Nominate an Alumnus

Each spring the Auburn/Cayuga Community College Alumni Association hosts an awards program recognizing alumni who have distinguished themselves through service to the community, Cayuga Community College, its Foundation, or its Alumni Association. Selections are based on nominees’ vocational and artistic achievements, volunteer service and involvement in civic functions, or other qualities that epitomize the mission of the ACC/CCC Alumni Association to “promote and enhance relations among alumni, the college community, and the community at large.”

All graduates of Auburn/Cayuga Community College are eligible to be nominated for an award. All winners are considered equally distinguished and deserving of honor for their contributions to their profession, community, Cayuga Community College, and/or Alumni Association.

You might wonder how individuals are selected and what criteria might be important for the selection process. For starters, a very thorough and well-supported nomination is crucial: the nomination form is key. If you plan to keep your nomination a secret from your nominee, enlist a family member or friend of his or hers to help you with the specifics. The more complete your submitted information, the better.

You will be asked to give particulars about the nominee’s employment history; list all academic degrees; highlight vocational and/or artistic achievements, volunteer service, participation in public service organizations, involvement in civic functions, and service to Cayuga Community College, the CCCC Foundation, or the ACC/CCC Alumni Association.

It helps to submit additional supportive documentation, such as résumés or letters of recommendation. Do remember, however, that such documents will only be accepted in addition to a carefully completed nomination form, not in lieu of one.

The nomination process is somewhat time-consuming but not overly so, especially if you prepare ahead of time. The deadline for submitting a nomination is always March 31, and you can ask for a nomination form well in advance of that date. We’ll be happy to e-mail or mail it to you.

It is important to know that anyone can nominate a deserving Auburn or Cayuga Community College graduate. Perhaps someone will nominate you!

A selection committee carefully reviews all nominations. If more than one person is chosen, all honorees are considered equally distinguished. The award is given annually during the May commencement ceremonies, following a brunch honoring the award winners.
