Applications for the next nursing class (Fall 2011 in Auburn and Fall 2012 in Fulton) will be available in the fall.
While the application deadline has passed, you are encouraged to enroll in the Liberal Arts and Sciences/Humanities and Social Science program at Cayuga. This will provide you the opportunity to complete any of the prerequisites that you may need or also take any required courses for the nursing degree. This plan allows three years to complete the Nursing program.
The next semester to apply for our nursing program at the Auburn campus will be the Fall 2011 semester. The next semester to apply for our nursing program for the Fulton campus will be the Fall 2012 semester. We will begin accepting nursing applications for the Fall 2011 (Auburn) semester on October 1, 2010. We will begin accepting nursing application for the Fall 2012 (Fulton) semester on October 1, 2011. The postmark application deadline is January 15, 2011.
If you are an LPN you could be considered for the Spring 2011 LPN to RN option in Auburn and Fulton based on space availability. The postmark application deadline to apply for the Spring 2011 LPN to RN option is October 31, 2010.

Nursing Program Application and Requirements
The Nursing program has its own specific application form and process. The application and technical standards form must be submitted by the postmarked application deadline. In addition, the following pre-requisites must be completed and proof submitted by the postmarked application deadline to be considered:
- High school or equivalency diploma
- Algebra math proficiency:
1. Testing into Math 102 or higher on the Cayuga placement test
or
2. Completion of Math 099 or higher with a grade of C (or equivalent) or higher
or
3. Have taken Math 099 or higher at another institution
or
4. Completion of calculus or higher in high school with a grade of C (or equivalent) or higher - Satisfactory completion (C or 70% or higher) of high school or college biology
- Satisfactory completion (C or 70% or higher) of high school or college chemistry
- Minimum cumulative GPA or overall high school average of C (2.0)
- Pre-admission Nursing Entrance Exam. It is recommended that only students who have completed all the prerequisites take this exam. Information and exam dates will be available beginning in September 2010.
Admission to the Program: Steps and Deadlines
- Technical standards are abilities and behaviors that a nursing student must be able to perform in order to function in a safe manner. It is essential that students of nursing possess and maintain the following functional requirements, with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Admission to the Nursing Program is a two-application process. Applicants must fill out the Cayuga admissions application and a Nursing Admission Application. Completion of these two applications does not guarantee admission to the program.
- October 31, 2010 is the postmark deadline to apply for Spring 2011 enrollment.
- January 15, 2011 is the postmark deadline to apply for Fall 2011 enrollment.
- The pre-admission Nursing Entrance Exam must be completed by the postmark deadline.
- Test codes need to purchased before signing up for the examination. They are only available online. Please contact the Academic Support Center (Auburn 315-255-1743, ext. 2293 or Fulton 315-592-4143, ext. 3028) to find out how to purchase the test codes.
- All applications will be considered competitively.
- Applicants will be notified of the acceptance decision in March for fall enrollment, and in December for spring enrollment.
- Applicants who are not accepted must reapply to be considered for enrollment the following year.

LPN Advanced Placement
Advanced placement in Cayuga’s Nursing program is based on available space in Nursing 102. A Licensed Practical Nurse applicant has the option of enrolling in Nursing 100 and 101 or challenging Nursing 100 and 101 and entering the program into Nursing 102.
Licensed Practical Nurses must meet the following admission requirements to challenge Nursing 100 and 101:
- Satisfy the admission criteria stated in Nursing Program Application.
- Complete BIOL 203 with a C+ or higher (ENGL 101 and BIOL 204 are strongly suggested).
- Graduate from a state-certified LPN program within the past 2 years with a GPA of 3.0 (80%) OR
- Complete the Excelsior College online Fundamentals of Nursing Exam with a score of B (80%) or higher.
- Complete the Nursing department Skill Competency Evaluation with a grade of Satisfactory.
- Complete the non-credit Nursing Bridge Course offered in December.
- Submit current LPN license.
- Schedule an interview with the Director of Nursing, Linda Alfieri at alfieri@cayuga-cc.edu.
Transferring into the Program
Students requesting transfer from another Nursing program must:
- Satisfy the admission criteria stated in Nursing Program Application and Requirements.
- Submit a written request for consideration of transfer on the Nursing Transfer Request form to the Director of Nursing. The only nursing course that may be accepted for transfer is Nursing 101 pending review of course syllabus. A minimum grade of C+ (77) is required for Nursing 101 credit transfer.
- Apply for admission and submit all completed documentation through the Admissions office by October 31.
- Complete the Nursing department Skill Competency Evaluation with a grade of Satisfactory.
- Complete the non-credit Nursing Bridge Course offered in December.
Nursing Entrance Exam
The Nursing Entrance Exam must be completed by the October 31 (Spring admission) or January 15 (Fall admission) application deadlines.
